This two-piece gown starts with an undergown with a sheer lace bodice and a skirt of red silk charmeuse. Over this are two fringed tiers with beaded concentric circles, eight on each layer, and diagnonal beadwork on the ribbon attaching the fringe. The lower tier is attached to the silk under the fringe of the top tier. On the inside are two silk ruffles to offer the beadwork support and protection while you walk. This gown closes with a back zipper.
The second part is a vest encrusted with black faceted and red silver-lined beads. The train is attached to this and is lined completely with your choice of sequins or beads (the film used sequins). The train features many beaded drops. Where the train and vest join is a row of beaded fringe. At each shoulder are two rhinestone buttons, one at each train point, and at the front of the vest, which closes with heavy-duty hooks.
Fully beaded with hand-made glass fringe: $3200
Lace with moderate beading and purchased fringe: $1200
Add $50 for beads in place of sequins on the train
Child's costume with rayon fringe: $300
Below are two of my versions. The first is an adult version minus the beaded circles and diagnonal beads on fringe ribbon, and with the train modified to be wider and longer than in the film. These modifications were intentional and due to personal tastes.
This child's costume version was ordered a scant two weeks before Halloween! Not until I received these pictures did anyone realize the bottom hook of the vest hadn't been closed, and that was after I pointed it out. :)
This gown took a surprising amount of time as it was almost entirely contructed by hand. It took about 18 hours!

As with the adult version, it was two-piece. The undergown was constructed in almost the same way, except the beaded circles were sequins, the fringe was purchased rayon fringe, and a double-row of sequins was used where the fringe and netting meet rather than diagonal bead work.
The vest was constructed using a sheer fabric flocked in a denser pattern laid over red satin. This gave the illusion of bead work. The arm holes and neckline were edged with a single row of sequins for sparkle. The train was constructed exactly as an adult train would be, sequin-edged and with beaded drops over the train. Again rayon fringe was used, and another double-row of sequins. The vest closes with hooks. The skirt was shortened to ankle-length to keep it a bit cleaner at the end of a New England October.
Rather than pricey rhinestone buttons, shimmery silver ones were used, and were skipped on the shoulders altogether as the cut-outs were eliminated to preserve the child's modesty.
