A reproduction of this gown was created in 1986 by Carrie Harrell and Jan Hevenor, was created as the original for the film was badly deteriorated from lack of proper conservation. "Detailed measurements of the garments were taken to determine the necessary yardage. Tiny pieces of fabric were taken from the inside seams in order to match color and fiber content. Finally, all the trimmings and underpinnings were counted and measured." It was determined that a total of 16 yard of French silk velvet were used, with dozens of ostrich feathers and hundreds of Swarovski crystals. This replica took over 191 hours of labor.
My basic version will use domestic silk velvet with chandelle feathers. The standard will use the same silk with ostrich feathers. Both versions will be made with Swarovski crystals. The deluxe version will be made using the same fabrics as the original. All versions will use the same 16 yards. The tulle wrap is included, but the gloves are not available. Though the shaped bodice is boned, a corset is absolutely recommended.
