Scarlett's Barbecue Dress
This gown was nearly worn in the opening scene as, in the book, Scarlett wore the same gown on the porch as to the barbecue.  But Selznick felt this was repetitive on film.  Images do exist of the beginning scene with this gown.

Somehow the belief began that this dress was made from silk organza or silk chiffon.  However, according to the grandchild of seamstress for the production, "It was on a very thin cotton/ linen type material, with a cotton broad cloth lining.  It was hand-stamped.  And the funny thing is it was a wallpaper pattern block that was used, and was supposed to be a dark blue, but on the fabric that they used it turned green so they went with the green velvet accent.  And the gown was in two pieces.  But it was never hemmed. Ran out of time as production had started and they where at that scene."

Other evidence I have found backs this up as well.  What appears to be a deep hem in a couple images is not visible in others, leading me to believe that the lining layer is hemmed in such as way that is visible through the sheerer top printed layer.
However, I can't stomach not finishing hems, so, with the exception of hand-hemming the skirt and shade of dye, for my deluxe version I will replicate this gown as faithfully as possible, including exact fabric print design, and creating this gown in three pieces.  The standard version will use a silk organza with a very similar print.  The basic version will use a printed cotton.

All versions will be made in three pieces, just as the
original was, a lined skirt with nine gores and a
circumference of 12 yards at the bottom, separate
boned bodice that closes in the front with concealed
hooks and eyes, and a boned, pointed sash or cotton
velvet (silk for the standard version).  In all, 46 yards
of fabrics are used, 23 of the print, 23 for lining,
regardless of size.  The depth of the deep hem will
vary between 6" and 12", depending on height.  The
ruffles at the shoulders will be trimmed with two dozen
serpentine circles laces with matching green velvet
ribbon.  Included are matching hair bows attached to
your choice of combs or bands.
