Foundations create the correct line to the body for historical pieces and certain other pieces.  On rare occassion, a person may be able to get by without a corset (mainly a slender woman with very little or no bust, nothing to nip into place when laced up).  But generally you will need a chemise, corset, and other pieces to complete a look.  If you are ordering a gown with foundations, the foundations will need to be finished and received before work on the gown can begin.  If you own foundations already and will wear them under a gown, measurements for the gown will need to be taken over those foundations.

Some photos in this section will be of foundations combined from various periods, a renaissance-era chemise with a Victorian corset and a Civil War-era hoop skirt, for example, and I am aware of this.  These are just photos of examples, and my clients are ultimately free to pick and choose which types of foundation pieces they want and if they want a piece to possibly pull double-duty for multiple eras.  My job is to deliver what the client wants.
