A popular term for wearers of inauthentic renaissance faires is "farbie". "Farb" is taken to stand for "Fast And Researchless Buyer". This is sometimes the case, but not always. Sometimes, often, I believe, the wearer simply had a dream gown in mind that was inspired by authentic renaissance gowns, and wanted a gown known to be inauthentic. Certain associations have strict rules for authenticity, but not all. The NorCal Renaissance Faire, which I attend, frequently has people dressed as fairies. So why not have some gowns actually inspired by the real thing, but aren't? If you can dream it, I will create it.
