Smocked dresses are a lovely way to dress a child in old-fashioned clothing, but without appearing old-fashioned. All pleating is gathered by hand, making these dresses extremely time-consuming. At this time, they aren't a typical offering.
This precious little dress is a close replica of a vintage dress I saw online that was for a tiny baby.
From pleated ruffles on the collar and sleeved to pintucks on the bottom of the skirt, this dress has it all!
The main body of the smocking it white on white. This prevents the focus from being on the embroidery and instead on the overall picture.
Pretty peachy-pink and green floral embroidery grace the collar, cuffs, waist, and bottom of the skirt between the pintucks. Rather than the typical knee-length of toddler dresses, this one, like all dresses for this little princess, was made nearly floor-length.
This dress was made from cotton voile and is lined with the same.
This blue smocked dress is a favorite! Again the smocking pattern is a replica. Smocking is still a very new skill. Blue pima cotton with matching blue smocking and pink roses. The collar is trimmed with white Venice lace. Only the bodice of this dress is lined. Despite dozens of wearings, this dress still loks nearly new.
