Baby Layette Set
This little set is very special to me.  It's the first layette I've made for my own future child.  I poured every ounce of love I already have for that child into this set.

The print fabric is a very soft cotton flannel.  The solid white is softer cotton muslin.

The little robe is semi-kimono-style, and ties closed in front with three sets of satin ribbons, over which I have sturdily sewn yellow star, pink heart, and blue star button.  The robe is top-stiched and reversible.
The gown is edged around the bottom, arm holes, and leg wholes, with a delicate white lace, then top-stitched.  Both shoulders have two sets of pearly blue buttons and elastic loops.  They are even on the sholders.  I did a bad job with this photo.

The itty-bitty baby booties were a bit tricky.  The lace and satin ribbon ties were sewn in when the outer flannel and lining muslin were sewn together.  The space was tight with pieces so tiny.  Only the opening to the shoe was top-stitched.  The little blue star buttons match those on the robe.
The bonnet was last, but the first of many I hope to have need to make.    I made liberal use of buttons once more!  The blocks on the flannel spelled "baby," and I found a precious pastel button set with those letter.  They were the same size as those on the blocks, and so I knew they had to be used.  Also I used more of the star buttons, yellow, on the edge of the bonnet.  This is the same lace as used on the robe.  The satin ribbon used is double-sides, so it's slippery and can pull loose if it's tight in the slightest around a baby's neck.

Sizes are available from premie on up to 2T.  This set was made for 7-13 pounds, typical newborn.  Many, many flannels are available, from dollies to fire trucks to fishies!

The blanket isn't available.  It was my own from when I was a baby.

A layette set like this would make a wonderful gift for a new mom or new dad, and would be made with as much love as if it were for my own child.
