Cascade Custom pools sits down with us to give us a few tips on why it is important to keep a clean pool.
If you don’t clean your pool, you’ll be putting your family’s health and safety at risk. Here are 3 essential tips on how to maintain a clean swimming pool:
1. Test Water
A clean and healthy pool should have balanced water. With a quality water testing kit, you can test:
pH—Level should be between 7.2 and 7.6. If it’s too high, add liquid muriatic acid. For low pH, additional soda ash will do. Remember to test every week.
Chlorine—Optimal level is 3.0 ppm. If it’s too low, bacteria and algae can grow. Consider the size of your pool and how often it is used to determine how much chlorine to put. Test each week.
Water hardness—Ideal level is 200-400 ppm. If it’s too high, water will get cloudy. If too low, pool surface can be damaged. Test every week for optimum result.
You should clean the following regularly:
Pump basket—Clogged pump basket will not cycle the water effectively and will stress your pump. Clean this equipment once a week.
Filter—Backwash and remove filter from casing to remove debris and avoid contamination every week. Refer to manufacturer for proper cleaning procedure.
Walls and floor—Brush walls once a week. Vacuum floors when needed to remove debris in pool’s bottom surface.
Use a pool cover whenever you’ll not use pool for several days. This will keep away leaves and other debris that can bring in contaminants into your pool.
